Course Overview

The intent of this course is to provide learners with current knowledge and skills relating to first aid for a child or infant.

The focus of this two hour session is to support parents/carers/other adults to manage a first aid situation involving a child or infant confidently and competently should the need arise.

We understand how stressful these situations can be so we will support learning of knowledge and skills during the session in a way that is informative and easy to remember.

We will also include relevant and effective strategies linking to accident prevention.

This course aims to work with learners to ensure that they develop their knowledge and skills that could be essential in the event of an emergency.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is suitable for anyone that wishes to gain some first aid skills and knowledge relating to administering first aid to children and infants.

It is suited for anyone that wishes to develop confidence dealing with first aid involving children.

This course is suitable for complete beginners or can also aid confidence of learners that may already have some first aid knowledge and experience and want to refresh this.

Learning Method

This course offers a range of learning methods to suit individual learners and the tutor will support throughout. There will be:

• Discussion based learning using case studies and scenarios

• Independent or group learning by completion of classroom activities

• Practical elements

You will learn that first aid knowledge can empower you to promote safety and wellbeing. You will acquire skills and attributes required to manage a situation involving a child casualty.

Please note: This is not an accredited course this is a session designed to provide information and learning that promotes awareness and confidence when dealing with a first aid emergency involving a child or infant.

This course is a face-to-face training course with a tutor in a classroom setting.

You will spend two hours with a tutor completing first aid training that links to common first aid emergencies in children.

Content with tutor includes mandatory learning topics:

• Managing a first aid incident

• Dealing with a casualty

• Health and safety

• Unresponsive child/infant

• CPR for a child

• Choking child/infant

Learners will be offered a choice of optional content to include:

• Asthma • Croup • Meningitis • Seizures
