Course Overview

Course intent

The intent of this course is to support learners who wish to work or are already working in health and social care settings in England.

This course seeks to provide success in attaining a level 3 qualification that develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in care settings.

This course is focused on working with learners to promote knowledge and skills that lead to competence in delivery of good quality care.

Course overview

The course contains both mandatory and optional units which cover a wide range of areas, with units covering:

• Aspects of support

• Specialisms

• Clinical skills or healthcare tasks

• Leadership and management skills

This qualification aims to:

• Focus on the study of the adult care worker role in care settings

• Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge

• Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

The objectives of this qualification are to:

• Build knowledge and skills to work in adult care in health and social care settings in England

• Cover a wide range of areas allowing learners to tailor the qualification to meet their needs, interests, preferred progression paths and the context of their job role

Course suitable for:

Any individual who wishes to work or is already working in health and social care settings in England. Entry is at the discretion of the centre, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. However, learners should be aged 16 or above to undertake this qualification.

Placement requirements - Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement, as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully achieve 58 credits: 39 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 19 credits from the optional units. At least 35 credits must be achieved at level 3 or above.

The qualification

This qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured.

The assessment consists of one component:

• An internally assessed portfolio of evidence which is assessed by centre staff and externally quality assured by NCFE

Learning methods

This course is a blended learning course consisting of tutor led classroom sessions (via Teams online) and independent guided study.

There are 399 guided learning hours for this qualification.

During this course you will participate in learning during tutor led group sessions and provide evidence for portfolios and assessment.

You will demonstrate competence and knowledge as you progress through the course and this will be evidenced by witness testimonies from senior staff members in your place of work. Your practical skills will demonstrate and link to theoretical knowledge gained throughout the duration of course.

This course offers a range of learning methods to suit individual learners and the tutor will support throughout. There will be:

• Discussion based learning using case studies and scenarios

• Independent guided learning

• Practical elements facilitated by witness testimonies and observations.

• Research tasks

• Written work

This course also aims to encourage learners with progressing onto further learning, offering guidance and information regarding options for this. Progression is encouraged and this course provides positive opportunities.
