First Aid Awareness - Community Course
The intent of this course is to provide learners with first aid knowledge and skills.
The focus of this session is to support management of a first aid incident confidently and competently should the need arise.
We understand how stressful these situations can be so we will support learning of knowledge and skills during the session in a way that is informative and easy to remember.
There is no legal requirement to have AED training in the UK, however we intend to support the confidence and skills of the general public and make this training available as part of this session. The numbers of AED’s being installed in public places are increasing rapidly and awareness of BLS and how to use an AED can save lives.
This course is suitable for complete beginners or can also aid confidence of learners that want to refresh existing first aid knowledge and experience.

This course is suitable for anyone that wishes to gain some first aid skills and knowledge.
Learning Method
This course offers a range of learning methods to suit individual learners and the tutor will support throughout. There will be:
• Discussion based learning using case studies and scenarios
• Independent or group learning by completion of classroom activities
• Practical skills elements
You will learn that first aid knowledge can empower you to promote safety and wellbeing. You will acquire skills and attributes required to manage a situation involving an adult that requires first aid.
Please note: This is not an accredited course this is a session designed to promote awareness and provide information to promote the confidence to deal effectively with a casualty requiring first aid.

Study this course
This course is a face-to-face training course with a tutor in a classroom setting.
You will spend time with a tutor completing training that links to the management of first aid emergencies.
Content with tutor includes mandatory learning including:
• Managing a first aid incident
• Dealing with a casualty
• Health and safety at scene of a first aid incident
• Primary survey
• Adult BLS incl AED
• Choking
• Bleeding (and shock)
• Heart attack and angina
Optional learning may include (time permitting):
• Stroke • Diabetes • Allergies • Spinal injury • Bone injuries
