Course Intent:
The course provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice.
It’s aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.
Who the course is for:
This qualification is a good choice for you if you are currently working in unsupervised roles that support pupils’ learning or if you are interested in entering the workforce in roles including teaching assistants, learning support assistants or similar roles at Level 3.
There are no formal entry requirements, but you must be functioning at minimum Level 2. You will be required to undertake Literacy and Numeracy assessments as part of this course.
You will need to be working or volunteering in a suitable school placement, which you must arrange yourself. Ideally, your placement should be arranged prior to enrolling on this course. Attendance to the course is subject to having a satisfactory DBS clearance.
