Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Domestic Abuse

Course Overview

Course Intent:

This qualification will provide learners with an opportunity to develop an understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) relevant to their current or future roles and will equip them with basic understanding of techniques for preventing and addressing ACEs in practice.

The qualification focuses on the 0-8 age range. Learners should cover the full range of ages but focus on their own experience/age group as appropriate to their work and job roles.

Course Overview:

There are three mandatory units:

  • Exploring childhood and family structures
  • Introduction to adverse childhood experiences
  • Understand strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by adverse childhood experiences

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but learners should be at least 19 years of age.

Qualification structure

This qualification aims to:

  • Understand domestic abuse
  • Understand the signs and risk factors associated with domestic abuse
  • Understand the impact of domestic abuse
  • Understand policy, response, and intervention in relation to domestic abuse

Assessment:

This qualification is internally assessed and externally quality assured. The assessment consists of one component:

  • An internally assessed portfolio of evidence which is assessed by centre staff and externally quality assured by NCFE

This qualification aims to increase learners’ awareness and understanding of domestic abuse and its impact.

The objectives of this qualification are to support those in the workplace who may work with, support, or interact with people at risk of, or experiencing, domestic abuse

Placement requirements

This is a knowledge only qualification. Work/industry placement experience is not required.
