Course Intent:

Durham Learn are launching a brand new Routeway into working in Early Years Education course for anybody interested in a career working within the early years sector. This course will support learners to develop a knowledge an understanding of Early Years development and the key roles and responsibilities of the practitioner. Early Years Educators are highly trained professionals who work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes and as childminders, ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.

Our teaching and learning Routeway will give you the knowledge and tools you need to work confidently in an Early Years setting, progressing on to complete a recognised childcare qualification.

This course is also suitable for parents with young children who want to develop an understanding of early development and how to support children’s development at home.

Health and Wellbeing:

Individuals will learn how to:

  • Support healthy lifestyles for children through the provision of food nutrition and exercise
  • Support physical care routines for children
  • Promote children’s emotional well-being

Legislation, frameworks and professional practice:

Individuals will learn how to:

  • Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection, welfare, health and safety of children
  • Getting to know the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework statutory requirements.
  • Follow legislation relating to equality, diversity and inclusive practice

Play and Development:

Individuals will learn how to:

  • Understand the value of play in Early Years
  • Plan, lead and review play opportunities which support children’s learning and development
  • Promote enabling play environments
  • Develop children’s cognitive skills
  • Promote children’s speech, language and communication
  • Promoting children’s physical, personal, social and emotional development
  • Support children with additional needs
  • Use observation, assessment and planning to promote the development of children

How you will learn:

This course offers a range of learning methods to suit individual learners and tutor will support throughout All units are internally assessed by your Tutor using a portfolio of evidence. There will be:

  • Discussion based learning using case studies and scenarios
  • Independent guided learning
  • Practical elements facilitated by witness testimonies and observations.
